The equipment is only part of what you are hiring. You are hiring the planning, preparation, MC work, music decisions and one person who knows the plan from the first conversation through the last dance. I personally handle your wedding from start to finish. Call or text (812) 431-8085.

One Person Accountable From Your First Call to Your Last Song

I'm Terry Tunks, owner and lead DJ of Spectrum Sound. I started DJing at Western Kentucky University in 1987 and have been producing weddings across the Tri-State since 1992. When you hire Spectrum Sound, you work with me from the first consultation through the last song. Not a booking agency. Not whoever's available. Me. I do not subcontract, and I do not double-book a Saturday.

Oakland City is a small Gibson County town anchored by Oakland City University, and that campus-and-community mix shapes a lot of the receptions I've read here — family who've been in Gibson County for generations mixed with alumni and current students. A small-town wedding deserves the same preparation as a 500-guest ballroom, and that's exactly what I bring.

01 — 9–18 hours of preparation and performance. Consultations, custom music planning, vendor coordination, a final planning meeting — so no dead air, no wrong song at the cake cutting, no timeline collapse at your Oakland City celebration.
02 — Cheese-free. Always. No wigs, no table-standing, no garter-toss humiliation games. Guests laugh and dance naturally, and people barely notice the DJ was there.
03 — Transparent pricing. No hidden fees. What's in your contract is what you pay, to the dollar. Travel, add-ons and overtime are each their own line on the quote, stated before you sign — nothing blended in, nothing added later.
04 — Backup equipment on-site. Every time. Equipment can fail. Mine doesn't — I bring a full backup system to every wedding.

A Team Before the Wedding, a Plan During It

I think of wedding planning as building a shared vocabulary. You show me the songs, artists, eras and moments that feel right to you. I learn what those choices have in common, then use that understanding when the dance floor starts talking back.

Then we build the framework around those clues: timeline, introductions, special moments, do-not-play boundaries, announcements, venue details and vendor coordination. A good plan is not there to make the reception rigid; it is there to make smart changes easier when the night moves.

The goal is not perfect predictability. It is confident adaptability. That is the balance I want for your Oakland City wedding: enough structure to protect the important moments, enough flexibility to respond to the people who actually show up.

Oakland City, IN Wedding Venues

Oakland City weddings can land in a church fellowship hall, on family property, in a rented community space, or north toward Princeton. Wherever yours is, I treat the room as its own production problem: confirm access, power, acoustics, speaker placement and where the dance floor actually sits, then build the setup around the event instead of assuming a standard room will behave a standard way.

Verified Oakland City Wedding Venues. Every room on my venue directory lists the city, county, distance from Evansville and the rental range, so you can compare before you call. See the Oakland City, IN venues · all 142 verified venues.

Testimonials & Reviews

★★★★★ "He already had us picked for next year before the night was over — that is how good the reception was. Already recommended him to everyone I know."Drea McD · Review
★★★★★ "Our DJ cancelled two weeks before the wedding. Terry stepped in, learned everything about our day, and the night was better than we ever could have imagined."Hayley Jost · Review
★★★★★ "Spectacular job from setup through the last song. Every detail was covered and the dance floor never emptied once. Exactly what we needed."Jerry Purvis · Review

Finding the Baby Bear Groove

Two songs from the same year can have completely different meaning to two families. That is why I watch reactions instead of assuming an era, genre or chart position automatically tells me what your guests will love.

A quarter-million-plus song library gives me range across generations and styles. The real skill is knowing when not to use most of it. I am looking for the small group of songs that makes sense for these people, in this room, right now.

I call the target the Baby Bear point: not too hot, not too cold, just right for the people who are actually in front of me. Not my definition of “just right” — yours, interpreted through what we planned together and what the room is telling me in real time.

PicsPhotoBooth.com — One Invoice with Your DJ

My sister brand, running since 2010. Self-serve is $300; printed strips start at $500. One contract, one retainer, one invoice. Booked with the DJ, the booth is priced as part of the night rather than as a separate rental — we set that at the consultation.

Dancing on a Cloud — $300 Add-On

A low, rolling cloud of chilled fog fills the dance floor and stops at the ankles for your first dance. It stays on the floor rather than rising, so every photograph stays clean. Clears in minutes with nothing left behind. Available for the first dance and parent dances. Cleared with your venue coordinator at the walk-through. Same invoice as the DJ.

Frequently Asked Questions — Wedding DJ Oakland City, IN

What does preparation look like before my Oakland City wedding?

We form a team before the wedding. Your song choices give me clues about what “good music” means to you, and we also work through the timeline, introductions, special dances, family considerations, do-not-plays, microphone style and venue details. I use that preparation as a framework, then stay flexible when the actual room gives us new information.

How do you decide what to play at an Oakland City reception?

I start with the musical clues you give me, then read the room live — who is dancing, who is not, which generations are responding and whether the energy needs to build, breathe or change direction. My organized library of more than 250,000 songs gives me options; experience helps me choose the option that fits your people rather than somebody else’s wedding.

What venues near Oakland City do you work?

Oakland City receptions can take place in church halls, on family property, in rented local spaces or up toward Princeton. Tell me where yours is and I will prepare around the actual room — access, power, acoustics, load-in and floor plan — before the date. Familiarity with a venue never replaces preparing for this particular wedding.

Do you charge extra for Oakland City weddings?

No. Oakland City is in my Zone 1 home market. No travel fee, no lodging line.

Will you personally DJ my Oakland City wedding?

Yes. I've personally performed every wedding I've booked since 1987, with no subcontractors and no associate DJs. In over 1,200 weddings since 1992, and countless other events, I have never missed one and never no-showed.

How much does a wedding DJ cost in Oakland City, IN?

Wedding DJ pricing in Oakland City, IN starts at $1,550 for reception only and $1,850 with the ceremony. Oakland City is Zone 1, my home market, so there is no travel fee, and the quote you get is the invoice you pay.
