You spent months planning it. On the day, you — and your parents — should finally get to enjoy it. I'm Terry Tunks, and I organize the reception, coordinate with your other vendors, make the announcements, run the music, and read the room so you don't have to think about any of it.

Short version: One DJ — me — for weddings across Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and by request Tennessee and Missouri. Booking is simple: call, we talk, a 7-day hold, then a 50% retainer locks your date. The detailed planning — your must-play list, the venue walkthrough, the run of show — happens after that, in the weeks before your wedding, not as a condition of booking.

The Difference Happens Before the First Song Plays

A great wedding reception isn't created by owning more music. I have access to a massive library, but whether it held 250,000 songs or five million wouldn't matter if it didn't have the right 40 for you, your family, and the friends standing on your dance floor. That's what the planning is actually for: learning what good music means to you, your guests, your generations, your must-plays and your do-not-plays — then combining that with three decades of reading a room in real time. The playlist isn't the product. The night is.

Booking Is the Easy Part

Call or text, tell me your date and venue, and I'll tell you on the spot whether it's open. A 50% retainer, non-refundable, locks it once we've talked. The deeper planning — your must-play list, the venue walkthrough on-site or on video with your coordinator, the minute-by-minute timeline — happens after that, in the weeks before your wedding. Booking shouldn't be the hard part of hiring your DJ. It isn't, here.

Overtime is a flat $250/hr on every tier. Dancing on a Cloud is $300. Photo booth runs from $300 through PicsPhotoBooth.com. Travel fees are shown as a separate, transparent line item in your quote before you sign. No surprises.

In the weeks before your wedding — not the day of — we finalize your must-play list, and I walk your venue with you, on site or on video with your coordinator.

Your wedding day. I arrive early, set up complete backup equipment, and run it personally from load-in to last song.

Questions Couples Ask Before They Call

How much does a wedding DJ cost in Indiana, Kentucky or Southern Illinois?

Six named tiers from $1,550 Reception Only to $3,500 The Ultimate Wedding, plus one flat travel fee by zone — $0 to $500. Off-peak dates start at $895. Overtime is $250 per hour on every tier. The full breakdown is on the pricing page, and the number goes in the contract before I hold your date.

Who is the DJ at my wedding?

I am. I'm Terry Tunks, the owner, and I have performed every Spectrum Sound wedding since 1992 with zero no-shows. There's no roster and no substitute. You meet me by phone or video when you book, and I'm the one behind the booth on the night, with a full backup system on site.

Do I need to walk my venue with you before I book?

No. Booking is simple — call, we talk, a 7-day hold, then a retainer locks your date. The venue walkthrough happens after that, in the weeks before your wedding, on site when I can get there or on video with your coordinator and the floor plan open. That's when power, placement, and load-in get locked down — well ahead of your day, never on it.

Do you charge a travel fee outside Evansville?

Yes, one flat fee by zone. Evansville, Newburgh, Henderson, and the rest of the home market carry none. From there it steps up to $500 for destination markets like Indianapolis, Nashville, and St. Louis. It's never a range and never added after booking. If an overnight is reasonably required, lodging is a separate $200 per room per night, disclosed on the proposal.

Do you play everything on our must-play list?

Yes, up to 40 songs, and every one gets played. Your special-moment songs are locked in place. Everything else gets scheduled by the crowd: floor-fillers when the floor is full, slow songs and sing-alongs at dinner or cocktail hour. A song that would clear a packed floor gets moved earlier, never dropped.

Do you take a deposit to hold a date?

Once we've talked, I hold your date for 7 days, no payment. A 50% retainer, non-refundable, then locks it the moment it clears. The remaining 50% is due the 1st of the month before your wedding. If you need to move your date and the new one is open, it moves with you.

How far in advance should I book?

Peak Saturdays go 9 to 12 months out, some further, so the honest answer is: call the day you have a venue. Sunday through Thursday and January to March dates stay open later and qualify for off-peak pricing from $895. One call tells you whether your date is open, and talking with me holds it for 7 days at no cost.
