Tell City was laid out in 1857 by the Swiss Colonization Society and named for William Tell, and its Schweizer Fest — the first full week of every August since 1959 — is one of Indiana's longest-running community festivals, taking over the 600 block of Main Street and City Hall Park with a beer garden, rides, and four nights of music. The Tell City River Walk runs along the Ohio a couple of blocks from downtown, and the Tell City Chair Gallery & Museum keeps the town's furniture-making history alive. Backyard parties and reunions here get the same setup as any closer booking. Tell City is Zone 2 — a flat $100 travel fee, shown as its own line. Central time, same as Evansville.

The Spectrum Sound Difference

Three things that set a Party DJ booking apart from a random Craigslist ad.

One person, every time. Every Tell City party gets Terry Tunks, not a rotating roster of subcontracted DJs. That means the person you talk to on the phone about your playlist, your timeline, and your do-not-play list is the same person running the mic and the mixer on the day — no last-minute swap, no handoff notes lost between two different people.

Gear built for real parties. The sound system, wireless mics, and lighting rig are the same professional-grade equipment Terry brings to weddings and corporate events, just right-sized for a backyard, a rec room, or a rented hall. A full backup system travels to every event, so a blown speaker or a dead battery never becomes your problem.

A plan built around your space. Before your date, Terry talks through your specific layout — where people will actually be standing, where the outlets are, whether the dance floor is inside or under a tent — so setup on the day is fast and the sound is dialed in for your room, not a generic template.

Party DJ FAQ — Tell City, IN

Who shows up to DJ my party in Tell City?

Terry Tunks, every time — no subcontractors, no rotating staff. The person you talk to on the phone is the person running your sound and mic on the day, and that's been true for 1,200-plus events with zero no-shows.

Is there a travel fee for Tell City?

Yes — Tell City is Zone 2, a flat $100 added to the package price and shown as its own line in your quote before you sign. It never gets blended into the package number.

Is there a deposit?

Yes. Once we've talked through your date, I hold it for 7 days with no payment. A 50% retainer, non-refundable, then locks it in the moment it clears. The balance is due on the first of the month before your event.

Can you play clean versions?

Yes. Tell me who's in the room — young kids, grandparents, a mixed office crowd — and I'll run clean versions and steer clear of anything that doesn't fit the vibe. I keep a library of clean edits for the most-requested songs so switching doesn't mean skipping a track altogether. I'd rather know your crowd ahead of time than guess and have to pull something mid-song.

Can we plug in our own playlist?

You can, but you don't need to. Most Tell City parties send me a must-play list and a do-not-play list ahead of time, and I build the night around both while still reading the room and adjusting live — a pre-set playlist can't do that. If you'd rather hand me a phone or a Spotify link and let it run for a stretch, like dinner, that's fine too — I'll still be right there running sound and ready to take over the moment you want the energy back up.

Do you MC, or just play music?

Whatever fits your party. Some Tell City hosts want full MC duties — announcements, games, a countdown to cut the cake, someone hyping up the dance floor. Others want great music running in the background and no mic at all beyond the essentials. I'll ask about your style during planning, not guess on the day, and I can dial it up or down as the party actually unfolds if the room wants more energy than expected.

Will your setup look tidy?

Yes. Cables are managed and taped down where people walk, the table is skirted, and the rig is sized to fit the room rather than dominate it. It should look like part of the party, not like sound equipment got dropped in the middle of it.

What music do you play?

Whatever your crowd wants. I've DJ'd since 1987, so the library runs from Motown and classic rock through current pop, country, and hip-hop, with plenty in between. You set the direction with your must-play and do-not-play lists, and I read the room from there and adjust in real time rather than running a fixed set.
